Capitoline Hill
One of the seven famous hills of Rome, the Capitoline Hill was initially dedicated to the god Saturn and a temple originally stood here. The Capitoline Museums now stand here and contain art and archaeological collections.
Colosseum
One of the most recognised architectural structures of the world, it is the largest amphitheatre ever built. Famously the Colosseum hosted gladiatorial combats, but it also accommodated naval demonstrations and religious shows.
The Roman Forum
Once the hub of ancient government buildings, the Roman Forum allows visitors to walk through historical Rome. Many of the city’s oldest and most important monuments are located in this area including the unmissable Temple of Saturn.

The Pantheon is a former Roman Temple that has now been consecrated as a church. It is one of the best-preserved ancient Roman buildings and it is famous for its oculus and for being the world’s largest unreinforced concrete dome.
Trevi Fountain
One of Rome’s most famous fountains. The Trevi is a fantastic example of Baroque architecture in Rome. The Trevi Fountain is also the home of one of the city’s superstitions of throwing coins into the fountain to ensure you return to the eternal city.
Piazza di Spagna
135 steps make the imposing staircase of the Spanish steps, which lead to the Church of Trinita dei Monti. The Piazza is also home to the John Keats and Percy Bysshe Shelley museum and the Fontana della Baraccia designed by Bernini.
Piazza del Popolo
Located at the Northern gate of the Aurelian Walls, Piazza del Popolo was often the first view of Rome people saw. It is a busy public square with several beautiful churches as well as access to Villa Borghese Gardens via Pincio Park.
Castel Sant’Angelo
This was the site of Hadrian’s tomb and other successive emperors until the sack of Rome in 410 AD. The castle was constructed as a military fort but named after the legend that Archangel Michael appeared to be sheathing his sword during a period of intense plague in 590 AD.
The Vatican City
As the smallest state in the world and the home to the head of the Catholic Church, there is some incredible art and architecture to be seen here. St Peter’s Basilica is a rare wonder and if you venture into the Vatican Museums you can see the famous Sistine Chapel.
